This year we are happy to offer a Centre-based camp for Autistic youth and their siblings to hang out in an inclusive environment and have the option to engage in a variety of activities. Each day, there will be a range of activities for the camper to choose to play or try out. For example: Simple cooking activities, science experiments, crafts. gross motor games, sensory play, tech time, Lego, board games, etc. Communication and Assent will be important goals. Most activities will be optional: If a camper communicates that they are removing assesnt and chooses not to engage in the group activity, there wil be other choices available. A BCBA will be present each day and all other camp leaders have extensive expereinces in working with Autistic children/youth. We want to ensure your child is safe, has the opportunity to develop friendships with other neurodiverse youth and enjoys their time at camp! *Siblings can be neurotypical. Please contact Joseph for a sibling discount.*

Skills targeted during a day of camp:

  • Communication: Make their needs known to staff/peers
  • Assent – campers will learn that their “no” will be respected
  • Develop friendships and increase peer interactions (if desired)
  • Group participations and planning (if desired)
  • Fine motor and gross motor skills (if desired)

Prerequisite Skills:

  • Able to communicate their basic needs (can be through speaking, using AAC, PECs, etc.)
  • Can use the toilet independently
  • For safety reasons, no significant problem behaviours or safety concerns (e.g., bolting/flighting risk, aggressive verbal or physical behaviour, or self-injurious behaviour)
